Office/Unit/Project Description

UNDP is the knowledge frontier organization for sustainable development in the UN Development System and serves as the integrator for collective action to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UNDP's policy work carried out at HQ Regional and Country Office levels, forms a contiguous spectrum of deep local knowledge to cutting-edge global perspectives and advocacy. In this context, UNDP invests in the Global Policy Network (GPN), a network of field-based and global technical expertise across a wide range of knowledge domains and in support of the signature solutions and organizational capabilities envisioned in the Strategic Plan.

Within the GPN, the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) has the responsibility for developing all relevant policy and guidance to support the results of UNDP's Strategic Plan. BPPS also assists UNDP and partners to achieve higher quality development results through an integrated approach that links results-based management and performance monitoring with more effective and new ways of working. Lastly, BPPS supports UNDP and partners to be more innovative, knowledge and data driven including in its programme support efforts.

Sustainable Insurance Forum

Established by the UN with the support of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) in 2016, the UNDP Sustainable Insurance Forum (SIF) is a global network of 36 insurance supervisors and regulators working together to address sustainability and climate change issues impacting consumers, firms, and markets in their jurisdictions.

SIF provides a platform for international collaboration among supervisors, facilitating knowledge sharing, dialogue, and uptake of policy innovations in support of a global insurance system where sustainability factors are effectively integrated into the regulation and supervision of insurance companies.
Duties and Responsibilities

The SIF Communication and Coordination specialist will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following key functions:

Strategic Corporate Communications and Coordination

Plan and execute sustainable finance strategy jointly agreed with the SFDN, FC4S,SIF and UNDP FSH.
Assist UNDP FSH team in global initiatives and activities aimed at aligning the financial system to the 2030 Agenda.

Develop the communications strategy for the three Secretariats namely FC4S, SIF, and SFDN, who are all supported out of the Dublin Office for Sustainable Finance in line with visibility guidelines of UNDP, including key messaging;
Create a two year global communications strategy which links all the work streams covered by SFH;
Special focus on the individual member representatives/organizations of the Dublin-based Secretariats as well as partners of SFH;
Create a database of facts and figures linked to UNDP’s activities for use in outreach, briefing notes, engagement and to analyze gaps;
Disseminate monthly updates and increase visibility and knowledge sharing;
Develop a press kit template;
Oversee the development of templates/layout to ensure a common identity for all;
Contribute to UNDP corporate briefings and preparation;
Provide technical advice, update and support implementation of DOSF’s Communications Strategy;
Develop a media outreach plan including the maintenance of a database of journalists and media houses;
Maintain a Communications Toolkit consisting of standard, re-branded templates targeting different audiences (members, prospective members, funding and programme partners); as well as Communications and Events SOPs for events, collateral and logo usage, branding, marketing, and media outreach;
Provide advice on brand positioning, website, social media channels, collateral and other materials;
Support the promotion and distribution of key knowledge management, research and reporting products, and others as requested.
Design, editing, and printing of various communications and knowledge products of DOSF and its Secretariats.
Production of briefing and reporting materials;
Production of visual advocacy materials including videos, newsletters, brochures, and promotional items
Solicit updates and stories from colleagues globally to develop regular stories/articles;
Design and disseminate project reports upon project completion;
Organization of public information events, including launches of publications;
Assist with the facilitation of media at international and national events, as needed;
Media interactions including the production of press releases and support to interview preparations;

Website Content Management (architecture and content development):

Develop and maintain site architecture of SFH website.
Secretariat-specific - Develop suggested site architecture and oversee the full re-design of all three Secretariats’ websites so that it will act as the main platform for DOSF knowledge sharing and visibility;
Design and implement a web content management strategy that increases audience traffic to and engagement. Ensure they are regularly updated with quality, creative multimedia content including new member profiles, press releases, videos, human impact stories, events, reports, blogs, and briefs. Ensure website member portal and full website backend is technically maintained with support from technical experts;
Act as the main liaison with website design firm;

Media Management including Media Partnerships

Provide communication advice and support for reputational management in line with SFH corporate communication standards and guidelines;
Develop guidelines for engagement with the financial secretariats to ensure both sides are compliant.
Utilize the network opportunities by the Financial Centers;
Improve DOSF’s media coverage by developing a media engagement strategy and updating target media lists comprised of a comprehensive database of journalists, social media influencers, and high-profile contributors.
Advise on and reach out to key media at the global and country levels, advocating on key issues at the core of SFH’s mandate, raising awareness of DOSF and its Secretariats’ initiatives, and increasing SFH’s external presence on media outlets;
Identify and support opportunities to create visibility for DOSF through its Secretariats’ network, relevant events and partnerships with like-minded organizations, business networks, UN and academic institutions;
Manage an active pipeline of content for SFH’s media platforms with third party companies providing outreach and communication support.
Assist with daily media monitoring by scanning online media for relevant news, interviews and articles mentioning SFH,DOSF and its Secretariats and relevant topics.

Institutional Arrangement:

The SIF Communication and Coordination specialist will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Advisor, Finance Sector Hub and in close collaboration with the other SFH and BPPS team members.

Required Skills and Experience

Min. Academic Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent or Bachelor degree with two years of additional experience) in business or public administration, finance, accounting, law, social sciences or related area.

Min. years of relevant work experience

A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in developing and implementing creative communication strategies and coordination

Required skills and competencies

Experience in Communication/coordinating partnerships with Governments and financial institutions is required.
Experience in sustainable finance issues is required

Demonstrates ability to use graphic design and video/photo editing software packages as well as web-based management systems.
Strong analytical and writing skills (writing success stories) and track record in producing relevant knowledge and communication materials for various target audiences including government counterparts, donors, UN organizations, private sector and the general public.
Strong interpersonal skills and experience in organizing and facilitating the production of publications.

Desired additional skills and competencies

Experience working with international organizations or governments is desirable.
Experience in managing communication and coordination functions in a development organization, including in digital communications and media and social media outreach and engagement as an asset.
Experience in developing/implementing communication strategies/plans, including in overseeing design and production of written and audiovisual material is desirable.
knowledge on SDG Finance is desired.
Experience in working with financial regulators is desirable.
Experience with development and creation of new partnerships with demonstrated networks is desirable.

Required Language(s) (at working level)

Proficiency in English is required.
Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
